Is Coding Still a Good Career Choice? NVIDIA CEO Says AI May Make It Obsolete
You've probably heard a lot about AI or artificial intelligence lately. It's the new hot technology that is changing how we live and work. Well, get ready, because the CEO of major tech company NVIDIA just made a pretty bold claim about AI's impact on one career field - coding.
AI Could Make Coding Jobs Disappear
At a recent summit in Dubai, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that coding might no longer be a viable career path for young people looking to get into tech. Why? Because of how quickly AI is advancing. Huang believes AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot are getting so good at software development that they could eventually eliminate the need for traditional programming languages and human coders. Instead of coding, Huang recommends young people pursue careers in fields like:
Biology
Education
Manufacturing
Farming
AI Coding Tools Are Impressive
The AI coding assistants out there today are pretty mind-blowing. ChatGPT can write computer programs from plain English instructions. Microsoft's Copilot can automatically generate code while you type. These tools are progressing at an incredible rate. They can already help human programmers code faster and more efficiently. Huang thinks they could make human coding obsolete someday.
Upskilling May Help Some Coders
However, Huang did say that some coding professionals could remain relevant by upskilling and learning how to work with AI programming tools.Having expertise in AI coding could allow some human programmers to keep their jobs, at least for a while. But overall, Huang seems to think the future of coding lies in AI, not human programmers.
The Debate Continues
Of course, Huang's comments have sparked a huge debate in the tech world. Many disagree and believe that coding will remain an essential, human-driven skill. Coding tools may be powerful, but do they really match human creativity and problem-solving? Only time will tell if Huang's bold prediction comes true. What's your take? Is a career in coding doomed due to AI? Or will human programmers still be needed despite these new tools? Let us know what you think by responding to this email
